Whats wrong with this picture?
I see your point, but that is a rather broad swipe at SUV's... I have a Lexus LX 470 that would make a very competent offroad vehicle were I to ask that of it, but it's duty for us is that of Family Wagon. Hummers, for all the disdain we share against them, are actually still very competent offroad vehicles when driven properly and under the right circumstances. The GX 470 Lexus has been compared to the LR Discovery and is a competent offroader, it even has that big-a$$ swing-open rear door like a Disco! It's not the manufacturer's fault that the consumer does not use the vehicle for the purpose for which it was engineered. Mercedes was flogged when they introduced the ML a decade ago, it was too rugged and offroad-like and not enough like the Lexus RX! LOL
There are many SUV's that are not designed to get anywhere near a real offroad trail, but there are also some very competent offroaders cleverly disguised as civilized transportation!
Cheers!
Isnt the LX 470 like a Land Cruiser with a lexus badge? I forgot all about it, and your right it absolutly is strong off road. What I was getting at was there is a certain bunch of SUV's that people buy to throw rims on and such. The escalade is the best example of that. I dont think I've ever seen an escalade rigged for off road, nor would I want to because I LOVE the way they look on road! Some SUV's look great with rims, other just look wrong.
The key with the big *** rims and stuff is being open minded about it. It's good in some aspects and it's bad in others. Personally, I don't like the looks of it so it has no use to me, but for some one who enjoys that sort of thing, I will always encourage them to go right ahead and throw whatever they want on their car, be it 24" rims with a half an inch of rubber on them or 15" rims with 20" of rubber on them. I just happen to prefer the latter
