Default Will a 2002 4.0 plug and play in a 2003 4.6l

I just purchased the 2003 knowing it needs a motor. I have found plenty of motors. But my question is since the 03s had the motor issues, would a 2002 4.0l drop right in, and work as everything should(I.e. alarm and electronics)?

As long as you get it to match in either the SAI or non SAI config to match your current setup then yes.

Yes I would have to use a sai motor. I knew Sai and non couldn’t inter change I just didn’t know if they changed any of the electronics. This is my first Land Rover but I have been working on cars for years. I just want reliability, next July I am going on a 3000 mile road trip in it with the wife and daughter.

100% compatible, and the older the better. I'd get a 99 block if I could.

Then if you were game, you could even switch over the crank and rods from your 4.6 to keep the 4.6 displacement since its the same block, just stroked.

Also if you're willing to pull the heads you can even swap your SAI heads onto a non SAI block.

which vin code would be best? And I like that idea but if I am to go that far I would want to do a complete rebuild while I am in there. Do you know a source for a rebuilt kit I have been coming up blank on my searches?

Call up Lucky 8 and they can hook you up. Ask for a forum member discount, too.

Couldn't tell you on the VIN code range. The older the better though. The only problem with the 03-04 blocks is that the machining tools were starting to get worn out. The older you go the fresher all the machining was.
