Default Your Rover won't go forward, but insists on wanting to go in reverse

Here is what I know can cause what you are describing: These Rovers have an excellent German automatic transmission, known as a ZF type, that is described by my extremely experienced professional mechanic as almost "bullet proof." However, if and when the teflon seals on front of output shaft of this transmission, wear out (usually at around 160,000 mi. or so), fluid leaks from the transmission; vehicle will go fine in reverse, but not forward gears. Check to see level of fluid in your transmission, and if low or empty, fill it and see what happens, but if very low or no fluid, and it was run a bit, you may have burned it up, so simply filling it now may not work. If transmission is at fault, you need to have it rebuilt, an expensive proposition, or need to install a good transmission, but personally I can't see putting one in that has a lot of mileage on it already, and not been rebuilt. Hope this helps. Jack

How many miles on your truck, do you have any fault codes and when was the tranny last serviced?
