Your Ash ray and Coin Tray Stuck? Look Here. Fix Write up in side with Pics!

Well this is a cool little fix, for the record it's not only LR that suffer with degraded plastics in this area (although the plastics they've used do generally feel more brittle and inferior, so maybe it's an accomplishment that they hold up for as long as they do!). I've dealt with this on BMW, VW, Ford and Volvo amongst others.
One thing I didn't see was any mention of the cup holder set up, it's that which is dead on our '00 whereas the Trash Ray and Coin Holder both work. Will have to have a squint at them later and see what's occurring with that one as it'd be cool to have them working.

I just did this, really it started as an endeavor to have a discreet phone charger hidden. The plan was to use the coin tray and run a cable to it. But I saw how easy it was to fix the broken push to open. I used a sheet metal screw, thinking it would be more durable than zip ties. The right side is missing a spring. If I can find a spring maybe ill fix that side too.
I planned on simply running a cable to the compartment, but once I got into it, I saw that there is enough room to run the cable and have the original felted insert in place as well. The cable can run out the bottom with the insert and the drawer closed. Or, you can bundle up the cable and have the drawer closed, no evidence of a cable until you need it. Pretty simple job, maybe 45 minutes mostly figuring things out. I cut out a bunch of the back of the drink tray fascia so that the cable could slide around more with out risk of cutting or pincing the cable. I simply used an Add-A-Fuse into the 30amp for the blower motor relay F7. If that is a bad idea, please let me know. 5 amp for the charger.
