Will the LS Swap improve highway performance, in regards to cruising speeds? I’d like to be able to cruise at 75-80 al day long.

Scenario 1: With the LS, small lift, larger tires, no regear - the cruising rpms would be lower. Increased power would allow it to sustain this scenario.

Scenario 2: Just the LS - stock-ish size tires, LS can simply (safely) cruise at higher RPMs.

???

Everything including the cats back is standard Land Rover (the truck in the video above had a resonator delete).

The biggest problem with the factory engine in the Florida heat was the engine would get warm if sitting at a sustained 70+ mph cruise with the A/C on. That problem is rectified with the LS and there have not been issues with sustained high-speed cruising. Either of your scenarios should be fine. Since a 2 inch lift is really needed with the conversion, scenario 1 would probably be preferable.

Picked up a pair of 5.3L LM7 engines for $400 each. These have the iron block with aluminum heads, but they were in great condition. It turns out one of them was recently remanufactured (stickers still on the block and all) and looks to have only been running for a few thousand miles before the truck was crashed -- quite a find!

Killer deal. I should start scoping around FL for one so that I’m ready to go. Were those local to Ft.Myers?

These came from a junkyard in Lakeland -- very nice and friendly people. It was our first time using them, but seeing as how things turned out, we're planning on using them in the future. They had about 20+ LS engines ready to go and said that they could do the full dropouts with the computer/harness/etc if we needed them for a competitive price. I'll forward along the contact info if you send me an email.

This is awesome. It's given me new hope for the long term viability of my disco. I'll be watching this thread.
