Unhappy Key fob dropped down 11 story elevator shaft

So yeah, my wife dropped our one and only key getting off the elevator. 11 floors later, the concrete in the shaft pit broke its fall. Maintenance recovered the fob, which amazingly still works, but no luck on the key blade.

As I understand it, there is a code a locksmith can use to cut a new key. Where do I get the code? I can't find any codes in the stuff that was with the car when we bought it (used). There is a code of some type on the fob itself, but in guessing that's not the cutting code. 2009 Range Rover HSE.

And if you are wondering what a key fob looks like after falling 11 stories:

So the local dealer says they don't sell just the blade and that I have to buy the key and fob for ~$300 + $120 for programming, and towing the car to them will run about $80. Oh, and it will be a week or two before it gets in and they can schedule the one hour programming service.

Who the hell pays $500 for a key?!?!

I saw another thread where aomeone got just the blade cut for an LR3, but I can't turn up a blade only part number for a 2009 Range Rover.

I found a fob shell with a blank for $10 on Amazon. Open to any all suggestions on getting just a blade cut without a key to duplicate...

If you email me a photo of your registration which shows your name and your VIN niumber plus a photo of your photo ID, I can order just a key blade.

its around $80. Takes about a week.

Sorry to hear about your key blade. I'm sure it's somewhere in the shaft if the guy took the time to really look for it with a bright light and a magnetic pole.

Now, usually a good Locksmith can cut you a new key by using the lock from the glove box or the passenger tumblers.

That's how they got me a new key when i lost mine in my Acura. Worth calling your local guy and see what he can do...

Good luck
