95 Discover Power Steering fluid
Hey all,
My power steering fluid has been getting low, below dip-stick indicator even. I believe I have a slow leak, I last topped off last July or so.
Anyway, my question is, the manual says to use PS Fluid Dexron 2, but I could not find the information indicated on the fluid I purchased.
Super Tech Power Steering Fluid, 32 oz: Automotive : Walmart.com
Would this be okay to use with 95 Discovery? It is clear and the fluid in the reservoir is black, but it mentions it mixes with other brands.
I am low on funds so if I can safely use this, that would be dandy. Any advice is very welcome.
Thank you very much

Nope. The RAVE shop manuals say ATF Dexron II. Use automatic transmission fluid. Take what you bought back to wally world, get refund, buy ATF. Note - your fluid should be red, not black. If old and black you'l need to save up a little to have enough fluid to change it out.

The owners manual has all the fluid specs. If you don't have one it's on the RAVE CD.
You may have a little trouble finding just Dexron II these days, but it will say on the back that if it is ok for Dexron II use.
For instance I use the Castrol Multi-Vehicle ATF. The Castrol Dexron VI ATF is also suitable.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
My '96 Disco had been leaking power steering fluid for two years. Every week I would replenish her with a new bottle. It was a weekly ritual.
Then I finally googled this issue and found this page. I'm a moron for not doing so earlier. I honestly thought this is just what these cars do!
I quickly went to the store and bought Valvoline ATF and put in about half the bottle. A week later, the empty power steering sound was back ('eeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr'), but I expected this because the previous power steering fluid was still in there (but now had hopefully completely leaked out). I filled her up with the rest of the ATF and crossed my fingers.
That was two weeks ago. And the sound hasn't come back!
Such a relief. And I swear - she's turning more smoothly than ever.
Now I know what to do net time the fluid gets low.
Thank you so much to all of you for all your posts!
I love my car
