My lifters are noisy only when accelerating
isn't the valley and intake all one piece like the 98? , yes super thin coat around the ports and you need a bead at the front and back of the valley before the gasket goes on and especialy where the heads and block meet

Not sure what your asking on the one piece question...here is the picture of the gasket with the intake assembly off of it. The gasket is all one piece.

I didn't take the upper to lower apart. I did disconnect the injectors and take the entire assembly off to clean it and so I would be able to reposition it when reinstalling it. (For the second time

The plenum uses special sealer when u bolt back onto the intake, it a goo that does not harden best I can telltell
By all one piece I was referring to the valley cover and 2 intake gaskets are all 1 piece on my 98

Okay.... yes it's one piece. The intake is back on waiting for he RTV to dry...
Sooooo....knowing that I am going to be needing to do a rebuild or different engine, any ideas or guidance to threads on engine ideas?
This is my initial thought. Are there any engines already built that I can buy and install that are not sub-par? I don't mind upgrading if that is a possibility as far as power goes but, I would not want to do any engine that I would have to modify the overall operation of the truck...such as electrical upgrades or drive train changes.
I'm not really thrilled with the idea of doing a rebuild of the existing engine myself. I barely am getting through this. I'm a plumber mechanic, I change out parts, I don't rebuild engines and have no confidence in that.

If you had a newer rover with gems I would know what to tell you, scouts may have some good advice, the pre rebuilt are stupid expensive, you can rebuild it for a fraction of the cost , ESP. Shopping parts on say amazon with free shipping, I think my rebuild was under 1500 with machine shop costs
I'm going to start a new thread about this and the transmission information I found. Still waiting on RTV to dry.
One note about torquing the intake manifold the second time, having the valve covers off and the injectors disconnected made it much easier...though if it was successful remains to be seen..Thanks for all your help eighter way Drowssap and Tom..
