Unhappy Security/Radio

I have a 2002 Freelander that was purchased used last week. The navigation/radio is locked and I was given a 4 digit code. I was told how to unlock it, and the radio works. The problem is that although the radio works, it is only in the accessories position, once the car is started, it goes back to the code enter stage. Is there a fix for this?

its enternal battery might be bad, they keep a little power to keep the code. If it looses it even when its started then its probably the radio not anything else.
