Andrew,

If I were to buy a 2011 LR2 with 65K I would do the following

Maintenance items

1. Buy a magnetic drain plug for the rear differential also replace the fluid

2. Replace the spark plugs

3. Replace power steering reservoir and fluid

4. Replace the Battery, check the voltage drops on the cables

5. Replace fuses and Relays

6. Service the Haldex, new filter and fluid

7. Replace the engine coolant

8. Flush the ATF fluid

9. Replace the gear oil in the front power transfer unit

10. Flush the brake fluid and rebuild the brakes

It may seem like a lot of items but most are not hard to do.

You could do one item each month and be done in less than a year.

@ Abeeson11 My 2010 LR2 134,000ks just started doing the exact same thing, with no codes. Yesterday, I accidentally discovered the redocking the key solution, but were you able to find the problem? It's going in for the rear diff tomorrow and would like to share it with my mechanic.

Default Shudder and stall

To Madamex1
My issue with occasional shudder and stall on ignition went away after I became more patient. I put in the fob, count to 5 and start the car. I do this every time and for the past 18 months that has worked. I didn’t do anything with the fuel pump or relays or anything else.
Just count to 5.
Its a quirky British car.
Did just pass 100k trouble free miles( except rear diff and starter motor) with just routine maintenance.

Funny you should ask, around the 100k kms mark both a battery draining gremlin and the notorious unprovoked hood latch alarm started, but nothing mechanical. That said, in reviewing the impeccable service records of the previous owner, the current stalling issue and battery drain were noted when rover was a few years old and under warranty. The fuel pump was replaced and they determined the parasitic drain to be a radio software glitch. Find it strange both issues returned 6 years later under my command. No luck finding the battery drain, 2 batteries later I just disconnect it if I won’t be driving for more than 2 days.

As for the starter, nothing yet, knock on wood, and the only reason I booked the the rear diff is that it’s on the 10 year maintenance list which I’m currently working through. But I did discover it’s the reason for the louder than usual road noise I’ve recently noticed so it’s due..... as well as every other fluid and hose.

After the 10 yr service is finished sadly it’s gotta go. I’m having to fill the tank every 5-6 days with my new job and with the price of premium gas in Canada its come down to cost, and excessive wear and tear. Oh well..sniff sniff.
