Default Correlated Electrical Issue

I just bought an LR3 with suspension issues. Rather than spray it with the parts hose, I did my diligence and located known problems and wound up replacing struts due to obvious air leaks. The previous owner was sick of the air suspension and was threatening to switch it to coils but I felt the EAS is a huge part of the vehicle and have opted to keep it.

I am confident the air leaks have been resolved. Left overnight, it doesn't drop. Here is the ongoing issue I'm having:

I get no fault lights or warnings on the dash or below tachometer. Instead, when I start the vehicle, the orange lights at the EAS switch behind shifter will flash, then go solid. The vehicle will automatically raise to driving height. The 4x4 info screen goes black and the radio cannot be adjusted. I have zero control over the suspension system under these conditions. When I key off, the vehicle automatically lowers to access height. If I disconnect the battery and reconnect, the system appears to be refreshed and allows me to control the suspension completely (up to off road height, down to access height), 4x4 info screen works great and correctly displays ride height, radio works great. Then the whole process starts over again. Mixed in with this, I have also had issues with 4x4 LO not engaging despite placing transmission in neutral, foot on brake, then selecting 4x4 LO. I got the transfer case to shift once a week ago, now it doesn't want to.

There seems to be a thread connecting these problems. Thanks for you help in advance.

Sounds like you may have problems with the terrain control panel by the shifter. These are known to quit working if they get too much moisture i.e. leaving sunroof open when it rains.

Hope this helps
Jeff

Thanks for the reply, Jeff. However, the terrain control is the one function that seems to always remain active when the other functions have been lost. I can always cycle through the different settings with the ****. So it seems isolated to the suspension, 4x4 info screen, parts of the radio, and 4x4 control, almost as if they are tied together with the same fuses or relays even though they're not.

The closest I can find online for this problem is a guy on RangeRovers.net who had inadvertently placed the Rover into "Transport Mode" if that matters.

The EAS switch lights flash when raising/lowering is taking place, just FYI. No fault codes? As far as I know there is no way for an LR3 to automatically go to access height when parked like that, but transport mode does set to access height. So your find may be correct, you may have to get it out of transport mode. Does the remote unlock/lock work? That is disabled when in transport mode. Also auto-locking of doors at speed is disabled. So if these functions are also not working, I would say it looks like transport mode. It is just weird that a reset lets things work until they do not...

The only time I've seen the amber suspension light on was when I pulled the EAS 20A fuse under the hood. Of course I haven't had the vehicle long, but I'm almost disappointed I'm not getting any dummy lights. But the vehicle truly raises on startup and lowers at key off all on its own. And I get a window of how it should look whenever I disconnect the battery in that I'm able to go to off road height and leave it there if I want...until next startup.

As for Transport Mode, just for kicks, how is it put into and taken out of that mode? I doubt that's it since I have full control over locks from the fob. But I'll try anything!

You need a GAP Tool or some sorta Rover oriented OBD II tool.

Considering Jeff's advice about moisture entry at the switches, I pulled the center console today and found all wiring harnesses underneath to be in good condition. No corrosion, all connected correctly. But unhooking and re-plugging them all in gave me the same result as disconnecting the battery: a "refresh" that allowed me to once more control the EAS. Then at next startup, back to no control. Still can't figure why the transfer case worked once and never again. This seems like a strange voltage issue. Guess I'll save my pennies for a GAP tool.
