Default How to tell if lock cylinder needs to be replaced?

So my 2009 lr3 has a new battery and alternator, but when I go to start it sometimes, it’ll click at me like the battery is dead. I have to totally remove the key and reinsert it (sometimes a couple times) for the car to then start properly. No fails or lights are coming up during all of this and someone suggested it might be the lock cylinder. Does that seem like a logical possibility? Or do I need to be looking at something else.

also, the alternator and battery both check good so I know those aren’t going/bad.

Could easily be the starter.

Silly question, is that part of the lock cylinder or something totally separate?

The starter is a small motor attached to the engine that spins to start it. So, no, not part of the key cylinder.

How would I best go about figuring out which could be going and are they easy to change out myself?

Not hard, not easy. But since you did not even know what a starter is I very much recommend having someone else do it. You are dealing with battery and starter connections when doing it and you do not want to mess those up.
