Try a new relay again and see if it goes backing to starting properly, if it does then there is possibly something overloading the relay causing it fail.

So I’ve tried a new relay and tried the headlight washer relay and it hasn’t helped. When I turn the key to start I hear a click but then nothing. In order to try another start, I have to turn the key all the way off and try again to get that click. Sometimes it takes 6 or 7 tries but it will finally start. Sometimes it will engage the starter but struggle, like the battery was bad and it’s not getting enough juice. Then it will start after a few more tries.

I’m at a loss. It’s not acting like a bad starter that is gradually failing. Usually it’s all or nothing. Meaning it either turns over or it doesn’t. Any thoughts?

Starter turning over slowly suggests a bad electrical connection. Even a small bit of corrosion on a high amperage circuit will drop a lot of voltage. Take off all cables, including grounds, clean and tighten down.

That’s what I was afraid of. Everything is good on the top side. I’m guessing it’s at the starter itself which I see is a bear to get to. Given I don’t have a lot of time right now, it’s likely going to the mechanic to check. Hopefully just a little corrosion.

Update, it needs a starter. So hopefully that will fix the issue.

New starter installed and the issue has so far been resolved. It’s just very odd how this all happened. I’ve had starters on other vehicles go out before and this was different.

Different; it's what makes a Rover, a Rover.
