Key Fob Circuitry/Replacement
#12
I had good luck with this vendor and their LR3 key fob after trying another vendor who's fob would not program. As others have said, you'll need to use a Gap tool and your original OEM key to clone it. You'll need a GAP tool anyway if you plan on doing your own repairs and calibrations. Check with your local locksmith for cutting of the key blade. I've paid $20 -ish for this service.

Landy Man needs assistance - IID Gap tool
Hey all. I’ve purchased my dream 06 LR3 HSE (GREEN! - woohoo). 2nd owner had a gutted key that can only be used to insert into door and ignition. Was told that a replacement and programming at dealer would run over $400. Saw the iid Gap Tool, but every vid I see on youtube assumes I’m some knowledgeable mechanic/dealer etc.
Can you put it in layman’s terms how I can use this tool to program new key(s)? I have the cut original, but I’m assuming I need a new casing. Can I purchase 2 blank fobs, have them cut to match and then program them? I see them between $10 - 15 bucks on ebay.
Then I take the iid gap tool and “FOLLOW SOME DIRECTIONS?” I believe I saw the tool for $399. Does that sound correct? So, after I have the new fob keys cut, I just use the tool and voila?
I’m in SO CAL. Can I get the keys cut anywhere keys are cut? Then program it myself? It seems too easy (except for the cost of the tool). Please, anyone, I’d appreciate help filling in the blanks or making corrections if I’m on the wrong track. Thanks - adventureloo

Ok. If you can start the car, there has to be a circuit board. These remotes have 2 functions. First in the immobilizer chip, allows you to start the vehicle. Second is the Keyless entry, which seems to not work.
Your first task should be to confirm that your keyless entry on the remote is not putting out a signal. I say this because you could have a wiring issue in the vehicles harness that is not allowing the keyless entry to work.
If you want to stop by my shop I will test the remote for a signal.
If your car can start with the key, yes you can buy 2 new fobs and program with the GAP. You don't need instructions, the tool guides you through the process.
