Default Lost communication w can bus

Hi All, I have a 2008 Lr3 it went into the mode of uncertainty, flashing lights, access mode suspension codes popping up. I am sure you know the routine. I’ve changed the battery bulbs and brake switch and all was good or so I thought. Flashers come on now periodically and when they are on I have the code for lost communication w can bus. It could be just at an idle or during a drive that this happens. I have looked by passenger and drivers floor for sign of water but none found. Wires look decent plug connectors are clean and new looking. I went back behind the battery all connections again look new no signs of water. I do have a sunroof issue of clogged drains but water seems to escape through the passenger side pillar air bag tag. Even up in there wiring looks fine and no signs of issues up there. From what I gather maybe my next step is tccm? Look for water and corrosion inside the module, abs sensors, body control, what else? xy switch, wiring behind l/r wheel or behind wheel arch passenger front. Or bite the bullet and take it to the stealer? Bye truck starts and operates completely code free until it goes cray cray on me. At that point blower motor shuts down radio too and if you shut it off I get nothing from the starter. Sorry starting to ramble. Been Messing w this issue for a few days now and it’s consumed my mind making me a tad bonkers

Default New revelation

now the can bus is communicating but every so often I lose contact with the vehicle immobilizer module. 4 ways flash and it goes into safe mode for a bit and suddenly it’ll be normal again. I’m ordering the abs speed sensor tomorrow and crossing my fingers

Most water ingress issues are either in the passenger side rocker under the plastic cover, and are up near the battery where the TCM is.

ArmyRover thanks for the response. I’ve gone over those areas multiple times and all connections and wiring appear to be in great shape. That whole area is surprisingly bone dry. I also took out the TCM. I opened it and nothing. Anyone ever experience water damaging the electrical in the pillar along the windshield or up by the sunroof?

As to the pillar, no. I think you will find water does damage from sitting, simply draining down over wires usually does not do it.

I feel this is also a water damage issue. You need to move the junction box and inspect ti. Complete pain to do. But your numerous issues dont seem to point to on single solution. Meaning its probably not one bad wire or one bad relay, etc.

I thought I had it solved last night. On the passenger side I removed and cleaned all the grounds and did get all codes to disappear and all functions returned to normal. After putting the whole interior back together as well as the passenger side tire arch and battery box it was time for a test drive. Put the key in the ignition turn to start and the flashers of death with zero response from the starter. My key fob is pretty ugly and I only have one ( I know I know I’m ordering a second) anyone have any thoughts on the possibility it’s not communicating all the time? As I said in the second post I did get the immobilizer code. After the no start last night the red park brake stayed illuminated after turning the key back and removing it. It flashed for maybe 3 minutes and once it went out I was able to start the truck. Scanned it again and got a brake switch code (wtf) earlier in the evening I put a scanner on it and came up with a different code I think it was a body control code. I cleared it and that never came back. My sunroof doesn’t always leak into the car but I also tried pouring water into the drain and it didn’t come out anywhere not even out of the drain tube. It also didn’t all stay in the tray. Again I have zero indication of water getting into any of the electronics in the battery box or sitting in either rocker panel or floor boards. Alternator reads a constant 14.25. Lastly on the 08 they did away or someone did away with those blue tape splices and any splice is connected w a male female connection covered w a heat shrink tube.

Default She is coming home!

After a long unsuccessful stint at a shop that specializes in LR I towed her to a dealer. It turns out it’s the gauge cluster has gone bad.( med can bus) The good news from it all is that I got a disco 2 as a back up. I really do miss the comfort of the 3 as the 2 is a narrower and smaller seating arrangement.
