Default Steering

Power steering feels like it isn't working anymore. I've read the posts on here. How do I get in to lubricate the steering column? I am going to flush the steering fluid tonight is there a special steering fluid I need or generic synthetic?
All help is appreciated.

Matt

Default Slow down - take your time.

I note this is your first post so I assume you are new to your 3. I would suggest you spend a couple of weeks researching the steering system before you touch it.

You will discover the 3 is no 52 Chev and any procedure that would seem normal, proper, reasonable, correct, or intelligent is usually wrong and causes continuing problems.

All the fluids are exotic, hard to determine, difficult to source, and generally a great subject of debate.

Search the various forums for Steering Wheel shaft U joint which is located above the brake pedal - it seems to be a source of problems - needs lubrication or replacement, and then all is well again.

But please, take your time - it is the worlds first electronic 4x4.

Thanks for the info. I've had it a couple years. Drained the fluid last night and it's running better but still not great. I'll find the U joint and lubricate it today.

The U-joint issue results in a "notchy" feeling in the steering, not so much in a feeling that the Power Steering has gone tango.
