Head gasket repair costs
I just got a quote from my Indy European car specialist for a head gasket repair. What would you say is an appropriate amount to expect for this job? While doing it, I asked about doing the timing chain. Thoughts on price for this also? Here's the quote below"

They said adding on the timing chain replacement would add up to another 3k or so.
Is this in the correct ballpark or is this significantly high? There is antifreeze in cylinders 1 and 4 but the cylinders walls are smooth and not scored or scratched.

15k. Holy cow. I was under the impression I could get a factory rebuilt engine for that... with a 1 year parts and labor warranty.
Of course, there is much more scoped here than just the head gasket change. Has your Inde read the workshop manual? Or done the job before?
Cheers!

I think thats legit cost, probably very reasonable in parts of the country. How much are they billing per hour?
ive just taken the valve covers off my 2016 LR4, which is maybe 85% of the removal effort of the head gaskets, but I have no idea the additional installation effort required. I assume quite a bit.
I can tell you that removing the supercharger is actually much faster than shops bill it out for. Ive seen videos of guys removing it in 30 mins, but they have all their tools lined up and have done it 50 times. The coolant cross over job is actually super easy and quick once you know what you are doing. The majority of the time on the valve covers, and presume the head gaskets, is the prep time for the re-installation: new injector seals, cleaning and installing new gaskets on the valve covers, etc. It's a lot of little small meticulous things that add up.
