Default LR4 Parking Brake Issue

Hey y’all, I don’t know enough about the parking brake system on the LR4 to decipher what’s wrong with it. For the last few weeks my parking brake would not deactivate using the switch, triggering the fault light, but when I start to move forward or reverse, the brake disengaged and the next time I stop and restart the car, the fault disappeared.

Today I just replaced my rear brake pads and rotors, I attempted to adjust the brake using the commonly accepted directions on YouTube. Even when the set screw was loosened… I could not move the wheel to tighten or loosen the parking brake, when turning the hub with a torque wrench and the vehicle in neutral, there was very little resistance. I just put the braking system back together as usual and when I went to remove the parking brake, it would not release when I used the switch, or moved the vehicle.

I’m thinking it may not be the actuator because prior to the new brakes, they won’t engage.

Maybe none of this is making sense, but if y’all have any thoughts I’d love to hear them!

Well, the very first test is to ensure the battery is at optimal state. The EPB is known to fail with insufficient power.
Does your battery read 12.6 v, at rest for 6 hours?

I will check the battery! After restarting it returned to it’s normal habit of retracting as soon as it moved. I didn’t know the battery had an affect!

Not sure what YT video you're using, but the go-to should be Bodsy's Brake Bible (from the Disco3.co.uk site) for everything brakes on these vehicles. The battery could also throw you in the wrong direction so have a look at that. If the actuator is not used often, it can fail. Once the thing is set up properly the best advice is to use the parking brake every time you park.
