Hello fellow LR4 enthusiasts.

After working through the entire Vacuum Pump debacle I now have a P0010 ‘A’ Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit / Open Bank 1.

I have read that this can be due to a faulty sensor (CMP), dirty / mixed oil, and finally the solenoid itself.

I will say that during the Vacuum Pump leak, since I had no idea where the oil was going (into the kick plate on the underbody, instead of my driveway where I could see it) I continued to add a pint per week at the worst point.

This also makes me wonder, that if oil can go out, then dust and grime can get in. I know in a pinch I reached for 10W-20 instead of 5W-20, and I don’t know if my mechanic added 10W-30 or what at the end.

All of this has happened and I have not had a proper oil change. During all this madness around the holidays I was topping off constantly 0.5 or 1QT so I changed the oil filter.

Tl;dr - For P0010 ‘A’ Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit / Open Bank 1 I think my process is as follows:

1. Do a proper oil change, entire 8 quarts out through the drain plug so I can also get any sludge out and a fresh filter.
2. If still getting the error, try swapping the Camshaft Position Sensors to see if the code moves to another bank.
3. While doing that check for rodent damage because I found acorns on top of my engine cover
4. ??? Anything else I should do here before pulling the solenoid.
5. Pull the old solenoid if this doesn’t clear up and replace it with a new one.

All thoughts appreciated,

Not sure how many miles you went without an oil change, but a flush with BG EPR or the Liqui moly equivalent in case there is carbon build up would be a bonus if there is a stuck or gummed up component.

Next I would inspect the harness on the passenger side upper timing cover and back, less work than swapping solenoids!
