P0011 Code, Running Fine/Well Enough
Long weekend trip, in hot weather.
CEL about 30 min from home.
Pulled code off P0011 "camshaft timing over advanced".
Studied VVT last night. Using oil to change cam timing blows my mind quite frankly.
So going into this I'm suspicious of oil quality. It's my wife's daily driver so deferred maintenance has not been paramount for me.
I was going to pull the solenoid and look for gunk/debris. Then change oil and filter likely.
Is this common for the Ecoboost engine?
What is spec range ohms for selenoid?
Any tips for approaching issue?
Thanks ahead of time.
Dave

I think that almost all manufactures use the same system.
You say suspicions of oil quality, have you not been using oil specified for the engine or just any oil.
I would do an oil changes using a Land Rover Specified oil STJLR.03.5003 or a oil that is A5/B5 as a first step. I have been using MOTUL 8100 ECO-NERGY 5W-30 in my car but there are other brands that meet the specs.
Since you say the engine is running fine I would reset the code after the oil change.

Canuk, thank you for your help! This time and last time.
Sounds good, I will look for proper oil choices.
It's been a while since last oil change, I will pull the solenoid but I would not be surprised if it got junked up.
I remember using 5w-20 from a box store, I think after a google search for 2012 Ford Edge oil, just based on the 2L ecoboost.
I knew VVT was a thing but never really paid attention to what it was

Update.
Had to look at solenoid, OCD compulsive behavior.
Pulled timing cover. Intake solenoid had no junk and no debris.
The solenoids seem to be unicorn tears: made by Dorman for I assume Ford Euro division in the early twenty teens.
Not available any where I could find. I just put it back on with the assumption it is good. The ohms matched for intake and exhaust sides, I know that's a long way from bench testing.
(My parts guy) Roger Tyson at 928rUS managed to locate a NOS set somehow, 88/per. Which I did buy as precaution.
Changed oil and filter. Used A5/B5 5W-30 this time.
Erased code, good so far.
Here's a question:
Pulled dipstick while at idle. There's some air flow coming out dipstick hole.
Why would crankcase have any positive pressure? Normal?
I have PTSD from the old volvo days, with the balloon test.
I would assume PCV would pull it all.

Not sure who the original supplier was for the parts but several companies make a replacement and you can even by on Amazon.
Never removed dipstick on any car when running so would not know.
Glad you are using proper oil
