The reason I said inside front fender well was based upon looking at the schematics and guessing where it might be but when I looked I didn’t see it. If it’s in the rear that would be better to find it.
I think I found it and disabled it for good.
open the small compartment on the right side of the trunk , where the jack is stored and find the connectors on the bottom and disconnect the small back plug.
please test it and confirm here.
I am wondering why having this feature is so bad for users? Not trying to start a firestorm but given the benefits to the environment it seems such a good idea, I gather its a very popular feature in Europe for that reason.
Where I live the most you might spend at a redlight is less than 1 minute and is annoying..... I can't imagine it would save much even over the lifetime of the car. For those that like it great! I don't and would like to have the option other than hitting the disable every time I get in and out of the car...

Auto Start/Stop just kills engine (especially turbo diesel) and starter. If you read all old school (when engines were made to run 1M miles) recommendations for turbo diesels they s you even after you stopped to get it idling for a min or two before shut off. Turbines hate to be started and stopped often and give up early. Many mechanical and lubrication reasons. Now noon cared if the car will run over guaranteed 160k and 4 years and want to trash it afterwards. This feature beside frustrate you on every traffic light helps to trash the car.
IMHO Auto Start/Stop is BS to trick millage and pollution ratings. in real life you wont save much and wont pollute more. Same as prestart your car in cold winter for 5 min before drive it. Mechanics and lubrication are not made for instant start and holding loads. It is not just a matter of comfort of getting into a warm car.
BTW if you read manual Auto Start/Stop is disabled by ECU when outside temperature lower -2C so even they admit the danger of such feature.
Chouk: Is that disconnect still keeping the auto stop start from kicking in? Have you found any side effects?
Has anyone else tried the above fix (removing that connector by the jack)? I haven't been driving my D5 so I haven't tried it yet. Was hoping a couple other readers would try it and report back.
And I would love to turn this system off. It annoys me when it shuts off and I knew it was going to be a momentary stop. It does stop and start smoothly but I just don't like it. I find myself trying to either keep rolling a little when possible or trying not to press the brake pedal so hard that the pressure switch allows the auto stop to kick in.
How much gas to you think it would save and how much do you think that replacement starter is going to cost when the old one craps out? Yes, saving a little gas helps the environment, but so does making a few less trips.

Great. Interested to see. I had assumed it's in the trunk side panel as it seems to be close to the battery in the other models. But if you have diagrams we can look to track it down.
I have not yet looked at the diagrams or posted them because it appears Chouk found the fix.

works like charm, no side effects.
Same as confirmed for RR and Jags in the link above, apparently all have same plug.
On the display you see Crossed "A" in a circle when you stop on light and normally the engine would be killed. this is another indication that it is correct plug and it does affect what we need,
Thanks for that reply Chouk. And I think you see that same crossed out "A" in a circle when you deactivate the system using the console switch.
I'm going to out and pull the plug now.

This was news to me and living up here in Canada I certainly didnt see the start stop feature being disabled due to the cold. For a while it was -25c here and the feature continued to work fine!!! I'll have a word with the dealer next week.
If the feature is so damaging to engines, I wonder why more and more manufacturers are installing it. Our local GMC dealer was advertising it like crazy on the new cars they were selling. I guess we can never guess the the odd workings of the car designers mind!
