What's best for vehicle operation and longevity is not the highest priority for vehicle manufacturers or dealers, which is why my dealer service advisor said that the transmission fluid in my D5 Td6 should never be changed. ZF recommends 50,000 miles/80,000 km but I'll be changing it myself at 60,000 miles, when I do my next 7500-mile oil change.
As much as it is a no brainer that a great marketing strategy is to produce a product that fails too soon. Yes, the stop start adds stresses. And the parts are designed to handle those stresses. But, in reality, if reliability was the top concern of a driver, they wouldn't be buying a Land Rover.

Completely agree. I prefer driving niche vehicles and reliability, while important, has never been my top priority. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and, in addition to performing periodic maintenance at much shorter intervals than the 16,000-mile Land Rover-specified service intervals, I do what I can to improve mechanical reliability. Forums such as this one provide essential information that's impossible to get from vehicle manufacturers and dealers.

that’s a convenience feature you can turn off if you’d like. The. It’ll stay in normal ride height. It’s the feature where the car goes into access height when you turn the car off and is parked

This is great! Took me all of 30 seconds. Wish I’d have known sooner

While concerns on starter or battery wear may be valid, disabling it by pushing the button when you start up and put on your seatbelt eventually becomes second nature. Even if you occasionally (or always) forget and you push the button the first time the engine cuts out it’s just one extra start cycle and hardly likely to make any difference long term just as it wouldn’t if someone drove their car once per day or two.
I agree. I used to have A MINI Cooper S and the sport mode could not be automated and had to be engaged by pushing a button. After a while, I just did that automatically without even thinking about it. And, like you said, if I forgot, I'd just push the button as soon as I realized it.

While I do find the inability to turn off the auto on/off by default, given the interaction of that feature with other systems (not to mention LR's renowned sensitivity), I am very wary of 3rd party "solutions."

I just found this on Youtube. Evidently with a Gap iiD tool you can modify the default setting to remember last setting you selected. I get my D400 this weekend, I'll be giving this a try for sure...

My indy tech enabled the memory function for auto start/stop. So, it just stays off once I press the button.
I believe they use Gap tool.

Do you mean that once you turn it off, it stays off even after the SUV has been turned off and subsequently started up again?
If you mean it stays off for the current trip after pushing the button, that's is the default.

Yep, Auto start/stop has stayed off after my last service visit. The change was made Nov 20.

I think they performed the same tweak as the lucky8 video above; MultiCAN-566 MHLastUserMode: enabled

Default Works

Did it today on my 2018 TD6 and works as advertised. When I am stopped, the auto start disabled icon shows up in the dash with the gostbuster symbol over it and truck keeps idiling!
