Spare doesn't usually have tpms - the half size donuts are at a different pressure anyway so it would misread

If you put a new tpms on a wheel it will auto learn. No reprogramming
But non oem tpms sensors are unreliable on JLR vehicles and you can get intermittent errors which are very irritating...
Thanks both of you for your replies.
Since the non OEM tpms seem to be unreliable I was considering no tams for a set of winter wheels.
If I add up the cost of 4 wheels plus 4 sensors it becomes pretty high for a winter set - so I'll likely just stick with a tire swap fall and spring.
If I find a set of LR or RR wheels with the sensors, maybe I'll reconsider.

Just my 2c but I had the same question with my Jag. Got the winter tires and swapped them across the rims for a season or so and it was a lot of hassle (and cost) 2x per year. So I bought rims for the winters and haven't regretted it for a second since then!

You can get 4x tpms oem sensors on eBay (new) for the price of one from the dealer if you look around. Just make sure it's the right model (they have a couple of different frequencies). We did that for our LR4 several years ago and they have been perfect

Plus winter can beat up the rims so it's nice to have a 'good' set for the summer

Just FYI, when you swap on wheels without TPMS (or incompatible TPMS), it'll take about 15-20 min for the D5 to throw an error. I recently purchased some used Range Rover HSE wheels that did not have a TPMS sensor and it took a while for the system to recognize that the TPMS was not found. Had to drive around for a bit for the error to finally register.

You can clear it by pressing the OK button but you'll still see warning messages. You'll also be reminded very time you restart your engine so it does get quite annoying over time.
