Hey all

Been lurking for a while, lusting after Rovers. I finally got myself in a good place to pick up a Disco. I'm actually going to look at an 03 HSE7 tonight. Yeah I'll check the VIN/oil pump. ;-)

Got TONS of good info from this site about problems and what to look for so I have my checklist ready to go. Hopefully I'll be a member soon!

I'll let ya know what ends up in my garage. Currently I have a '95 Jaguar Vanden Plas (which will be sold) and an '05 BMW R1150r Rockster motorcycle. The Jag has been a blast, but it's time to get a Rover!

Be careful what you lust for, and if more than basic folding money consider having an indy mechanic look at it. He can be more objective, and doesn't have the hots for it.

True dat. That's why I always bring a friend to be an uninterested third party.

Looked at two yesterday.

2003 bronze HSE7 with 81k. The VIN falls into the range of the jacked oil pump and I REALLY don't want to deal with that. It needed lots of other work like a sheered off lug nut, new windshield, display on the nav was pooched. Some weeping seals on the engine. Glad I drove it though for comparison. It had the SLS which felt more "bouncy" to me than a sprung Disco. Then again, it may have been going flat. It'd be much cheaper up front but I imagine it'd keep me VERY busy.

2004 grey Westminster with 102K (mostly highway). 2nd owner, locking diff, Harmon Kardon, no SLS (I liked the ride better, actually, when compared to the SLS), roof rack, no jump seats (which I wanted), babied and VERY well maintained. This thing was PRISTINE. It drove better than my Jag. Engine/drive train were dry. They're asking $9500 but I imagine I can talk 'em down.

Things to make you say, "Hmmm..."
