Range Rover P38 (2nd Gen) Talk about the Land Rover Range Rover P38 within.

I made a questionable decision 😂

Maybe it’s sacrilege but I’ve sealed shut the sun roofs on the P38 and Disco. I never get any water leaks.

I’ve also gotten rid of the resonator from the P38 and Disco. The Disco is slightly louder, but it still has an OEM muffler so still quite quiet. The P38 has a Magnaflow muffler, so it’s quite throaty (I love the sound), but I get an annoying drone around 2100 RPM.

Not sacrilege at all in my book I have never owned a LR3 that I haven’t Flex seal taped the sunroof on or D1 for that matter 😂

unfortunately the sunroof was broken in such a way that the back corner was down a inch or so and the opposite front corner was jammed up an inch over the roof line. So doing the Flex Seal fix was out. Good news is I have a parts truck or two laying around and was able to get a good sunroof assembly out of it.

Yup a piece of straight pipe will repair that section of the exhaust I’ll weld on a couple hangers to keep it solid and move on

Got a bunch of tune up and maintenance parts from rock auto on clearance. So we knocked out the tune up on what turned out to be I think original plugs and wires.

Not terrible to get out really just a lot of old plastics that you need to be very gentle with

I replaced my headliner a few years ago. It went pretty well. Some mistakes, but I think I’m the only one who notices. My biggest issue was that I should have left more material around the edges. You’ve probably done a few yourself though.

Oh I have done a few over the years. The parts truck headliner is pretty good though so I think we will reuse that one instead of doing a fresh headliner. Now the sunshade portion is mildewed and smells terrible so I will have to do something with that. I of course broke both the sun visor retainer clips 🤦 So there we are lol

Ok so I got it plated today and drove it home from the shop. It’s running much better than when I got it but its way down on power and more than half throttle makes it angry

Junk iCarSoft LR scanner comes up with can’t talk to most anything but did give me this ”fmfr correction at its maximum negative value (diving cycle C)”. No P code but it seems to either be a P1177 or P1179. Most seem to point towards the MAF or needing to reset the adaptive. Of course this reader can’t do that 🙄. I’ll try the launch tomorrow back at the shop. It will run down the road doing 65 no issue but big hills are its enemy

Symptoms

1. doesn’t like to rev over 3k
2. Doesn’t like over half throttle seems to backfire
3. fmfr correction at its maximum negative value (diving cycle C)
4. Seems to be a lot of venting when you open the gas cap

Things done
1. Spark plugs old looked fine on burn but were obviously worn
2. Plug wires
3. Fixed vacuum leak by cruise control
4. New Air filter
5. Swapped MAFs no change
