Thanks for that @_Allegedly . Personally, I think a lot of that should be over on the PiviPro or duplicated over there. It seems to me to be a poor UX design to have different interfaces with different data in two places. I actually just set that and forget about it. I should play with it more (while not driving of course!<g>).

 

Not having my truck yet, I'm wondering how much of Android Auto / Car Play gets pushed to that screen. Would be great if, say, I use Waze or Google Maps and it shows there but that seems unlikely.

 

I used Waze extensively last week and it only showed on PiviPro. I'm sure they intentionally limited non-Land Rover navs. It didn't show the turns on the HUD nor on the TFT/Instrument panel. Would only do that if I was using the native nav in the Defender. And, one time I switched from Native to Waze and it cut 30 minutes off the ride, thus I only turn it on when I know the route is correct/optimized which is a bit redundant.

 

Yeah, unfortunately Android Auto an Apple CarPlay nav maps and directions only display in the center screen, not in the driver display (or the HUD.). Music playback info from Android Auto is displayed in the IDD, however - don't have an iPhone but I am pretty sure that's the case for CarPlay as well. You can't have both Waze / Google Maps and the native satnav app running at the same time either. Starting guidance with one automatically turns off guidance on the other.

The native satnav is actually decent most of the times, and recently added warning chimes such as upcoming speed traps / cameras. However, I agree it's not as smart as Waze or Google Maps. The other day I was coming back to L.A. from Joshua Tree using the native app and a window pops up "New Route Found, Adds < 5 Minutes. Select / Cancel." Thank you Sherlock, I'll stick to the original route then. Also the database seems outdated, and it's so much easier to speak directions or places to go into Android Auto than in the native voice recognition system.

 

The waters in front of Long Beach are a parking lot right now, backed up for months. Last I checked there were some 40 container ships anchored there waiting to unload. Goods getting spoiled, importers out of stock, transportation costs doubled or even tripled... It's an unmitigated disaster in the shipping industry, with no relief in sight.

Sucks for Land Rover (and other car companies abroad, I am sure), as they use Port Hueneme a little further north in Ventura, which is far smaller and less congested. That's where their Southern California bound cars normally go to. My guess is that all vessels are delayed or sold out, so they just load cars wherever they find a spot now, regardless of destination. A friend of mine in SoCal received his Defender by rail, the car was unloaded at a seaport in Eastern Canada.

 

That is all very interesting. Why would they go to long beach when they could go to Port Hueneme? The ship my defender is on is heading to Port Hueneme now before it heads up to Tacoma.

I had read that Long Beach was backed up due to a shortage of rail cars. Do they put the defenders on rail cars there first? I was imagining that they would get trucked wherever they were going at that point.

I see the carrier Tulane is docked in port so at least that is good news right?

 

For the TULANE, I believe this is the return trip - Asia to North America and onward - and is probably full of Asia-sourced vehicles destined for US West Coast/North America. My 110 was delivered by this ship from Europe to Port Hueneme on July 15. After dropping off my Defender, the ship continued north to Tacoma, west to Yokohama, down to Singapore. So this jives that it took a month to make the return trip east to North America.

 

My guess is that this vehicle has been stuck in a parking lot at Port Hueneme since 7/17 (perhaps waiting for that tail lamps recall), not on the ship. Why would they take this car sightseeing in Japan first? Plus, like I said Land Rover normally uses Hueneme, not Long Beach. Long Beach is for Japaneses and Korean cars usually, but these days who knows.

Can anyone confirm if they do the port install accessories at the local port your defender is delivered to or in South Hampton? I saw someone said South Hampton, which made sense to me. My sales rep said the local port which makes less sense to me but at this point I feel like his accurateness has been in the 60/40 range. Now if they do have some sort of techs that install at all delivery ports that makes some sense to replace the tail lights....
