Headlight failure (led ring/DRL)
I didn't fancy my chances either so just got a direct replacement from a breakers yard for less than $380 and got the replacement DRL module for $2.38
Now I have a spare headlight.
You can buy failed DRL light assembly on ebay for about $50-$75. The DRL modules themselves are dirt cheap. Even if you do break some of the plastic in th eheadlight surround it doesn't matter. It all gets hidden when the light goes back in place. I did mine just for fun really. I think with practice this could become routine.
Some other electrical doohickey that's not badly designed. Turn signal is completely unaffected by the DRL failure. The two squares still light up initially but will go out as they need some electrical handshake from the halo to stay on. These are otherwise unaffected and will work normally when you swap in the DRL module.

the DRL halo snafu has no impact on indicators. None.
Thought I'd add this: My LH DRL failed last year and was replaced free under the 4-year warranty. And as expected, my RH DRL has just failed, which is 6 months beyond my warranty. My dealer has been excellent and has just emailed that JLR would cover 60% of the replacement (my cost is a little over $1k).
So it's nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. However, it does signify to me that perhaps this DRL failure will end up as a Recall.
