illegal in the U.K. for any vehicle manufactured after 2011

Not sure of the law elsewhere.

How much is regular non-fancy LED light assy vs the LED ring one? I have regular lights and while they are not the brightest I dont really care about that halo/ring.
One less thing to break.

And like that, mine is out. Thank god I’m still under warranty. Are these still backordered to hell?

Let's hope the new ones are improved design to prevent repeat failures

This is what I’m wondering and have tried to get answers on for quite some time. I think it’s still the same part number? Once again tagging @The Insider in hopes of getting some info, since anyone else at JLR seems basically unreachable from a customers standpoint. Dealer has been great but also clueless in this respect.

Does anyone have suggestions on who else we could contact to pry a little further here? I swear half the defenders I see have a running light out, so it definitely seems to be affecting nearly everyone. This has to be costing JLR a fortune.

FWIW, I think my passenger side is about to go as well. Cuts out intermittently, unsure if this is a symptom others have noticed prior to the light going out. I’ll mention it in the service request, hopefully they’ll replace both at once so I don’t have the same song and dance once the inevitable happens.

This is where it would be incredibly useful to have a signature line with the model year etc. to sort out which trucks are impacted but I digress.

Can't these be swapped for ROW matrix LEDs?

Simon sells the RHD version for $3300 US for a pair. There has to be a LHD version.

Good call. I don’t think there is a LHD option yet, which is surprising considering they were approved by US regulators last year.

As weird and stupid as this sounds, I am actually thrilled my light(s?) went out on me while I’m still in warranty mileage. Seriously.

If I were LR I’d be utterly embarrassed that such an iconic and recognizable aspect of the L663’s aesthetic is completely jank on so many vehicles. I’m not exaggerating when I say around 50% of the other Defenders I see on the road look like they’re wearing an eye patch. It says something about the brand that they haven’t issued a recall yet. I am very disappointed as a customer and fan of LR.

Same part numbers still w/ no inkling of a redesign to anything in them.

I’ve contemplated turning off my auto headlights because every time I pull in the garage I feel like it’s an extra on/off cycle to the DRL. Makes me question if that would prolong the life of them…

We had the passenger replaced last month. I have 1 year exactly left on my factory warranty and I’m hoping the driver goes out at this point.

If they fail out of warranty I’m not paying full price to replace them. I will drive around with “the wink” until both go out or find discounted used ones.

Do we know for sure that a revision/fixed unit would trigger a new part code? My biggest gripe with JLR is not their questionable-at-best reliability, but their transparency with respect to what they’re doing to address problems. We’re stuck guessing on if we will be hit with a $8k repair bill 30,000 miles down the line. Surely someone has to have a JLR connection here they can plug for some info.

If mine went out of warranty I’d consider just buying a pair of the standard headlights without the LED ring. They look much better than a broken LED one. Wonder if they’re a straight plug in play replacement for a vehicle programmed for the premium lights?

that’s the $8k question I can’t seem to find an answer. No one knows if there’s any update to the original design, or if LR is just supplying a backlog of contracted headlights…
