V8 Roll Call
i personally think there is no difference in the chassis between all models. Understanding the LR they wouldn’t spend the cost to develop a new chassis just to put a different engine in. Especially m that is being phased out of the entire line up.
out of all the rumors i believe the gross vehicle weight reasoning makes the most sense. the v8 engine and associated components is supposed to weigh more restricting any extra weight added. you will prob have added stress on the suspension with gear loaded on the roof. Air suspensions don’t last forever anyways and i have not gotten more than 50k out of any car that had them equipped. the bags start to crack and leak or compressor go bad.
that being said i have not installed a roof rack, RTT or anything on the roof beside the rails. Not that i am worried but haven’t needed too.
i am sure when winter comes i will have atleast a ski rack or roof box.
i had a RTT on my p400 for one camping trip. Although fun for the weekend it’s really not convenient if you plan to use the car for anything else than camping/overlanding. Car won’t fit in the garage and you get some serious drag and wind noise. Makes no sense to leave it on all the time and pretty difficult to get it on and off without a couple extra hands

@Quick @Ehloo @James D. Robinson I noticed all three of you have installed the roof rail kits on your V8. Some questions:
- Other than @Ehloo 's point about getting the right torx bits, any other tips re: installation?
- What sort of loads have you put on the roof so far? I notice a bunch of non-V8's rocking around with Roof-top-tents. Have any of you done that? Would you be comfortable loading the roof with the land rover suggested capacities for the non-V8's?
- Thoughts on cross bars? Lots of positive comments about the Thule Wingbar on the forum.
I've had a ski box loaded with skis, boots, bags, etc. No problems at all.
I agree with @Ehloo -I don't think LR makes the chassis any different. I saw @insider posted something that basically stated the same. The cost of certifying it for a higher weight wasn't worth the effort.
I did the rail install myself as well. Based on what I noticed while doing the install, I would also agree it's the same.

Thanks! Yes... Ran those on my '21 X-Dynamic HSE and loved them

Really enjoying my Defender X but it has caused me to want a V8 even more. Thinking about getting on “the list” at my local dealer which means actually getting to place an order in 90-12 days. I am trying to understand the primary differences in the V8 and Carpathian. I definitely was CGcolor but beyond that when I build them both I am having a hard time seeing what I am getting for the extra money. Felt this may be the place to get an answer as opposed to starting a new thread.

If you’re getting the Carpathian Edition, you are getting the V8 plus the Carpathian gray paint upgrade plus the satin factory wrap on the car. The wrap is an expensive option but should protect the paint well. If you want the satin finish, that’s the choice. Or you can price just the V8 with the Carpathian paint to see the price difference between the two variations.
