The CPS harness can literally crumble to bits leaving just the copper to short itself out or not read at all.

Can I get to it through the wheel well or do I need to go underneath? sitting in the street and I don't have a hoist, just a jack and jackstands..

P.O. did mention he did some exhaust work so maybe he melted some wires(??) with some of the other work I have seen he did, nothing would surprise me anymore.

still waiting for parts, with there being new plug wires, and the 3 times I drove it, there seemed to be a bit of a miss. nothing that would keep it from running, but it did give a couple of engine miss on #8 cylinder codes.Hopefully the CPS will fix that too. I would have guesses it would cause more problems before it quit completely, but being a new owner of the truck, maybe it did before I picked it up.
Supposed to get cold and sno this weekend, probably will start up with the weather as soon as I get the parts. Just my luck!

Of course as soon as I posted, part arrived. only problem is, there is not much chance of me getting my over sized mits up in there... Probably have to push it down to the local shop and have them do it. sadly it will probably cost an arm and a leg

New symptom... when I turn the key, it takes about 10-15 seconds for the starter to turn over. Maybe a low battery??

Did a little detective work and found that the alarm ECU on my truck does not have the Passive coil, and the wires that go to the ECU from the coil are not present.
I cracked open the defective ECU and found lots of white corrosion on the board, and the connector pins. I scrubbed it all off and tried reinstalling it on the truck. Alarm went off as soon as I connected the battery. I put the replacement one on and it went back to being quiet when I connected the battery. Tried the 3 turns, and 7 turns of the door key with no change. also no indication that anything was reset.

Did you press the hood switch prior to reconnecting the battery? If not then the alarm goes off which is a sign that it's working correctly. Sometimes I'd forget while in a hurry, simply disconnect the battery, tape or hold the hood switch down while reconnecting the juice and everything was good.

Hood switch is unplugged. same as holding it down. top part of the plunger is missing so I disconnected it. now it thinks it is closed all the time.

yup, thought maybe a good scrubbing would take care of it but it didn't work. getting a bit of snow outside right now so it will be a few days until I get to work on it, I did order an ignition switch as mine needs to be played with before it will turn most of the time. the story was that the dealer got the broken key out and got a new one to fit in. works good in toe doors, but not too good in the ignition. has 3 plugs, only 2 are connected. I don't see where the 3rd one goes.
