Not so, if you select the right values and push the adaptive envelope toward low power high mpg... but you are fighting a program that wants to maintain a certain air fuel mix at all times, allow the O2s to control that, plus test them from time to time, plus adapt each cylinder spark timing on a unique basis, and control pulse width for each injector for every squirt of fuel, monitor lots of other things, while soccer mom speeds toward pedicure appointment.
There are companies that sell modified chips, normally pushed toward more power. One resistor most likely will not be enough (might have to do several). The system is built to adapt for variations in parts, even wear of the throttle stop.
See attached for more ideas.

I saw something recently on Horsepower TV regarding new O2 sensors that give a varaible output that will continue to fine tune the mixture. I did not initially know anything regarding this system and was unaware that they are either a low or high state and I guess are constantly awitching back and forth.
Apparently mine was originally signaling a lean condition existed and the ECU waqs constantly in a rich mode trying to correct an erroneous lean condition.
I wish I had dug in deeper initially but I did not. Live and learn, even when you as old as me. I sure would love to get the HPTV guys working on updating a Discovery One since it is an old Buick Motor anyway.
