Session 10

3 inch long 1/2 inch extension plus real cheater bar use got the two back ones out, then head was still held in place by a 10mm bolt that secures the two plastic vent lines from diff and TC.

Found some oil gunk build up, then realized that oil is supplied thru the front of the head, the rear port has no path into the block. So there is no left or right side head. The coolant channel at the end sure doesn't have much "meat" between it and the outside word, and looks almost crusty-rusty.

Gasket seemed in place, so my problems were basically an HG job that skipped the second 90 degree torque down, on just one head.

Rocker assemblies enjoying a soak in Berrymans parts cleaner, which won't be enough. Heads to shop in the morning.

Will probably wait on those two projects. Just don't have the time.

Session 11

Dropped of heads for skim and valve job. Owner said no problem with heat track where gasket failed, skim will remove it.

Worked on valve train. Support towers don't come off. RAVE says they should. Assume that a groove has been worn in the center pipe. Crud keeps moving around in center pipe. Note half and half from a 30 minute dip in Berrymans parts cleaner.

buzz the towers will come off you need to tap with lead hammer / brass drift, mine were a pita to get apart there was so much crud, clean the tube as you get them off makes the others come off easier, oil it all real good for reassembly you will need to tap the towers back on they are a good tight fit, be sure the oilers in the main tube face toward inside of engine when you reassemble ( I am sure you know that ) since I oiled the parts so much it took 2 people to reassemble once apart we cleaned all parts on a real fine brass wire wheel on a bench grinder no scarring resulted

Default Murphy's Law #2398.234(a)

Whilst one vehicle is under the wrench, no repairs started on another vehicle will be successful.

Went to add a little refrigerant to Mercedes. High side fitting came apart on me, the cover was glued on as part of their practice of R12-R134a conversion. As it vented, I recalled that it was forecast to be 95-96F today....

Sava....I'll definitely file this.

In the meantime maybe you can do a KSeal write up for me. Take your pick, D1 or D2. By the way neither overheat.

If neither overheat, and coolant loss is not a problem then why KSeal? If coolant loss, lots of sneaky places it can escape. A rented or home fabbed pressure tester and 15 PSI of air will make it show up usually. We had a post where a member cleverly mounted a tire valve in an old coolant cap. BTW if you suspect the coolant cap, some paper towel zip tied to the overflow line may show up wet after driving in traffic.
