That stuff was invented decades ago long before the fragile components and electronics of today came along so I don't care what any self appointed web expert says, its not good for todays engines. The point is that if your top end is dirty enough to cause problems, you need more than a can of solvent dumped into your intake.

Stuff like sea foam rarely causes catastrophic problems when used as directed, but its at the mercy of the user. The most common problem with all additives is sensor failure, some due to user error, some not. The bottom line is there is a right way and a wrong way to clean crud out of your engine. Most folks don't want to invest the cash or time to do it right so you end up with discussions like this. Whatever happened to do it right or don't do it at all?

To the OP
Put your top end in a box and send it to me after you "clean" it with Sea Foam. I'll show you all the crap you missed and finish the job the right way for free.
First, Audi and Mercedes were the first auto manufactures to recommend doing induction cleans, now all the companies do it.
There are no sensors, including the 02's that will be effected by doing a proper cleaning, assuming they are not about to fail from high mileage already.
As for missing things when cleaning, sure, that can happen on any engine depending on what sort of shape the engine is, this is not a mirical cure, just a good way to bring back some life to a dirty neglected engine.
And, YES, it has to be done per the directions, other wise anything can happen, with the exception of broken rings, which can't be blamed on 10 ozs. of cleaner.

Ok gang, I did it. Followed the directions to the letter, and I used the vacuum line off the brake booster for the induction. What do you make of this- no smoke. Not a bit. I have around 121k on the engine- only about 300 are mine. Can it be this clean?? I'm not complaining, I'm just surprised. An old boss of mine did this to three Ford Crown Vics in our fleet and they poured white smoke like a triple chaser smoke grenade.

In my humble opinion it did not smoke because all of the cleaner was burned effectively.
Engines smoke because of to much fuel in the cylinders, when all of the fuel cannot be combusted it just turns to smoke, kinda like trying to burn a pile of wet leaves, they just smoke, burn a pile of dry leaves and no smoke.
My truck did not smoke either the one and only time I did it 4 years ago.
Carbon does not burn, neither does varnish or other solid deposits that may be inside your intake plenum.
I am of the opinion that all you are doing by not using a professional type of intake cleaner you and just wasting money.
If it makes you feel better fine, I'm not saying dont do it, just that I dont see the point.

Same here, although I have less than 90,000 miles on mine... And did it to my 2007 Prius with ~130,000 miles on it. No smoke there either...
