Should I buy this Disco?
Hey guys! I'm new to Land Rovers and was hoping I could get some opinions on purchasing a 1995 Disco w/Manual Trans. Link: 1995 "LIMITED EDITION " DISCOVERY LAND ROVER,5SPD,DUAL(2) SUN ROOFS!!
I saw it yesterday. It looks clean and well taken care of, bone stock, drives straight, clutch feels good, shifts and runs smoothly, stops good, sounds good, fluids look clean, electronics all function.
But... It has 155,000 on the odo and I'm apprehensive of the high mileage. I only drive on weekends and only put up about 5,000 miles a year on my other car. I also don't have $ to spend on major repairs for a couple of years (new graduate saddled with student loans & debt) and I don't currently have a place or decent tools to work on a vehicle even though I am capable of performing most repairs.
Am I getting in over my head?
Thanks for your input

Way too expensive, and if you do not have a place to work on your truck or tools, don't buy it.
For that kind of money you could buy a lower mileage D2.
Honestly(I am jaded though) the most that truck is worth is 2K and thats if the head gaskets have been done and all current maintenance.
Also the seller is full of Sh*t. "Limited Edition" and 95' being the most desirable?
Everybody says they want a 5 speed, but on a disco it is not the driving experience that you would think. Clutch gets tiresome. The auto trans on these rides is quite nice.
I love Land Rovers! And in that spirit you should make this purchase one of the most informed purchases of your life.
The 95' has a distributor which can be troublesome, 96' and up has a coil pack with a GEMS engine management system. 95' is not OBD2 compatible, 96' is. Meaning many generic code readers can read the codes on a 96'. In addition you can use the "Ultragauge" on the 96' which helps to monitor engine temperature.
Good luck.

I'm going with too much money and too many miles. At least one of those values needs to be lower. And as much as I LOVE my Landie, they require money and workspace/tools. If you don't have workspace and/or tools, they require a LOT of money.
95 is nice bc a distributer and coil is way easier to troubleshoot/less complicated than the GEMS system. Any OBDI codes on a 94-95 pop up on a fancy little LCD display below the passenger seat, and are found online.
I have heard of people having nightmare problems with the distributor coil systems. Seems like simply changing the ECU on a GEMSsystem us easier than diagnosing/fixing all the dizzy/coil issue I read about in here.
Ask Monteroman. His car has not started in a year.

BTW, I saw that the 95 listing was flagged for removal.
