Yeah I think I'm kinda over the whole drive it like you stole it thing, too. As I (slowly)build this '95 I'm pretty sure I don't want any body damage on it. I know some little stuff is inevitable but I don't want it looking like my current trail rig. I'm even considering dropping a tire size from 315/75/16 to 255/85/16.

I agree, it is definitely fun to wheel it like you stole it..
But when it was your daily driver with 3 1/2 hour drive home and still had monthly payments on it, you tend to wheel it a little less aggressively.

That was my last rig. 01 Xterra on 35's, locked, t-case geared, skids, sliders, bumpers, etc.. Already had a Dana 44 built for the SAS before the motor popped and wasn't worth fixing since everything else was failing.

My current Disco I, I'd wheel the **** out of it if I trusted it to actually make it to Rausch Creek and back. :P

Amen!!! I read about some of these guys that are all proud because they took their truck(usually D90 guys) on a 300 round trip "adventure" and I laugh. They don't exactly have a lot of faith in their rigs.
I drove my truck to Moab and back for nearly 3000 miles of driving. Taken it on a 1500 mile round trip to Kentucky. 1000 miles round trip to Michigan's UP. And countless 4-600 mile round trip jaunts to WI and Indiana.
SUCK IT UP, SALLIES!!!!

I did the whole Moab wheeling thing in the Xterra.. 5600 miles, countless trips to Paragon, NJ Pine Barrens, Rausch Creek, etc..
No way I trust my rover anywhere near how much I trusted the Xterra.
Out of all of those trips, only had to tow it back home once!
ETA: and that was after a NJ pine barrens trip, flooding the truck to the top of the clutch pedal, and cooking the alternator when spares weren't available.

My disco failed to start a few times on my daily commute. LOL

I cringe at the thought out 500 miles in my truck. Not that I expect it to blow up but its slow, loud, and huge. If I have a tow rig available it goes on a trailer.

for real. i'd love to take mine to the UP. maybe next year i'll take some days off, visit my dad and head up there. the disco is just as slow as my XJ was on 35s but it gets better fuel mileage and is SO much more comfortable. i could drive this thing for days... it eats up the highway.

I mounted my Thule roof rack gear. All stuff I transfer from rig to rig and have collected over the years. It's a little tall for my liking but I really do use it starting early fall thru spring for hunting & ski trips. Plus it still fits in the garage!
