So after waiting all summer long for the weather to cool off so I could work on the rover, I changed out the crankshaft position sensor. It took several hours for me to get it done, including trips back the forums and you tube to figure out what the hell I was doing. The plug was a PITA but I got it. Had to replace the battery as well after having it parked all summer. It started right up. But now the driver side window doesn't work. Crossing my fingers that nothing else goes wrong.

 

drove it 5 hours up to new hampshire, wheeled some class 6 roads. drove home, made a detour half way down to hit another trail. never skipped a beat.

 

Having difficulty starting it when it's cold outside, i.e. less than 50F. Probably due to the lack of tune up, fuel filter or fuel pump on it's way out.


I guess I'll add all that to the list of crap to do that I've put off since buying this truck in March. hehehehe
It still starts...eventually.. after 5 or 6 tries.

 

Took my '96 D1 on a 3 day, 700 mile round trip adventure.
5:30am Friday I drove about 160 miles west to the start of the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail near Hazel Green, WI.
The **** is a North/South route of WI consisting of mainly back and gravel roads.
I followed it for 290 miles, into Iowa, back into WI, and ending at the Levis Mound mountain bike area in Neillsville, WI. The "trail" was pretty easy and could be done in just about any vehicle. Having the truck was nice because I could cruise along even the bad dirt roads at about 40-50mph and just skip over the holes.
The Fall colors were nice, though I suspect last weekend was better. I saw some interesting things and surprised some Amish people, LOL.

My tablet/GPS system worked absolutely flawlessly! I was seriously happy about that. The battery stayed charged at 100% all day, never lost signal, no glitches in the software, the mount was rock solid. VERY happy with it.

I rode my mtn bike Saturday and took the highway home Sunday.

My '96 performed great. My recently repaired Cruise Control worked perfectly. The death wobble was non-existant. No problems from my recently swapped front axles/hubs/rotors/calipers/new hard lines.
The truck pulled really hard the entire trip and the more I pushed it the better it seemed to run. I really believe these trucks long to be driven and handle better off road than on. The worst thing for them seems to be sitting.

Nah, I dragged it out of the way. When I went over to it was clear that it had been cut. When I got to the next intersection there was a guy sleeping in one of those brush trimming tractors, LOL. Guess it fell the wrong way.

Those gray Home Depot totes are great. There was actually a storage tote efficiency comparison done on ExPo and they scored extremely well. The amount of usable space is great compared to the amount of space they take up. When you factor in they cost $8 and are pretty durable its hard to go wrong.
