My Disco rarely gives me any trouble. It’s been a really reliable daily driver. I wish I could say the same for my P38.

(D2, though I doubt that makes a big difference for reliability)

Worked on my '94. Solved the ABS problem.
Inexpensive ABS sensors with bushings
Inexpensive ABS sensors with bushings
New magnet is much stronger
New magnet is much stronger
Solved the ABS warning light and heart-stopping-panic-when-it-doesn't-stop problem. Decided to do an experiment and replaced the front sensors with new (prices are very low at the moment from AutohauzAZ and FCP Euro). Got both sensors (see photo) with new bushings and new mounting plastic clips for less than $65 including tax and shipping.

I needed to adjust the position of the clips that are away from the sensors, but happy with quality overall. Also installed small wire ties at the first clips to help out the wimpy electrical tape. After reinstalling the ABS Pump fuse, the ABS Warning light extinguished right away on the test drive. No unwanted ABS during slow turns or figure eights. Good activation stopping on gravel roads.

Second photo shows my experiment. The new sensors magnets are much stronger than the old sensors and picked up significantly more test nails. So either the old sensors started out with weaker magnets (maybe not enough rare earth minerals), or they petered out as they aged (my theory, but too cheap to experiment until now). I'll let you know if the light re-appears or the heart-stopping-panic. For now I am happy! I did not replace the sensor bushings, by the way, simply out with the old, in with the new.

Fired up the ol Disco this weekend to haul equipment to the top of the Bluff for Ham Radio Field Day. Started right up after about 2 years of being parked, hooked up the trailer and off we go.... Back up on Sunday for more Radio work and then tear everything down, haul it home and put it away.. Dead tired but the Disco worked great except for a Check Engine light on the way home. Too beat to check it out, maybe in a few days.. Didn't get hot and only went about 3 miles, ran fine.

I was cut off by a little baby Range Rover who proceeded to honk her horn and then to confirm her intelligence level with the proverbial one finger salute. Sorry I was driving the posted speed limit.
I waved Hi which I am sure pissed her off more. Not my problem

Been working on adding a LiFePo4 battery at the rear for accessory/auxiliary purposes. Learning as I go here but so far I do have power and haven’t burned down the truck yet! Bluetooth app to monitor battery status is pretty handy too.

Onboard air added now

I slapped on a D2 Parking brake assembly (my stock D1 unit on the XD was sticking badly) so I also got to install the D2 Westminster leather ebrake Assembly. Currently out at the 11th Hill Country Rover Rally having fun out on the trails.

Default Sunroof thingy

Finally got the 3d printing issues sorted out. So back at prototyping the parts for the sunroof.
Printing several, with smaller and larger openings, not sure how much that.atters ,also material type is another consideration. But I'm sure I'll have working sunroofs again.

Changed the oil for the winter - went with Motor craft FL300 filter and new brass crush washer and Walmart 10-40 conventional oil
Topped off all the fluids and installed new bosch wiper blades
Air'd up the tires

Back from an epic 8000 mile road trip! Big Bend National Park via Yellowstone National Park is done - Seven weeks, 8,082 miles, 2 countries, ten states, god knows how many National Parks, Monuments and Recreation areas. No doubt we’d do it all again.
We left Texas and headed west to Santa Fe, NM and on to Mesa Verde, NP in Colorado. Then over to Bluff, UT and Lake Powell. Then to Capitol Reef NP, Bryce NP, Zion NP and Goblin Valley State Park, up to Moab (where I changed the oil) for Arches NP, Canyonlands NP. Dinosaur National Monument to the Grand Tetons NP. Up to Yellowstone NP and
over the Salt Lake City to Antelope Island to Bonneville to Great Basin NP. Grand Canyon NP to Petrified Forest NP to Meteor Crater. Through Winslow AZ to stand on a corner to Silver City and Gila National Forest. Then down to Alpine, TX and down to Terlingua checking out Big Bend NP and Boquillos, Mexico.
I'm sure I left out some State Parks, National Monument an Recreation Areas.
Out '97 DISCO didn't miss beat! Time to change ALL the fluids and rotate the tires. Gotta get her ready for the next adventure.
