WOW nice find on the roof rack!!!!

Just another heads up ( you know I like to spend your $ ) you might want to replace the 2 PCV HOSES and OIL SEPARATOR.
Maybe it's just the pic, but the pcv breather hose looks flat and if that's the case the other hose it probably gone too.
These 2 hoses and oil separator are regular maintenance parts anyway.

This is all of a 15 minute fix, 25 minutes max if the oil separator is stuck.
And if the "ticking" sound is coming from the valve train this can contribute to the problem.

Parts:
Valve cover to Plenum: LLH500100 / ERR5039 *breather* /Drivers Side
Oil Separator: LLJ000010
Valve Cover to Ram Housing: LLH500090 / ERR4258 /Pass Side

You can see the parts here (there is a video too) > https://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9205G

If you go with AB save on shipping > https://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-...S!-1:rk:5:pf:0

RovahFarm has very decent prices on these bits too > https://www.rovahfarm.com/discoopeni...er%20parts.htm

Ya, I probably should swap them out, they still have a bit of life but it’s time. The separator should just pull out with a needle nose, right?
can it cause any real problems if part of it falls inside the valve cover?

The guy at the JY said “That’s an oversized roof rack. I gotta charge you extra. $95”. SOLD. Thank you very much.

OMG did you kill it.... a roof rack for $95 =

RE: the oil separator/ As far as damage, IMHO I wouldn't want anything metal, plastic, etc free floating under the valve cover.
Besides a blocked pcv hose or oil sep causes more problems then you need.
This is such an inexpensive and simple repair, but way too often overlooked. They only thing that can cause headaches is removing the oil separator.
99% of the time people rush this and things do bad fast.
But some very simple prep gets the job done.

DON'T TRY TO REMOVE THE OIL SEP before...…
1st See video re: using needle nose pliers to prep the nipple in the valve cover. > https://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9205G
Then spray the Oil Separator with a little Throttle Body Cleaner. If the oil sep is full of crud use some kerosene to dissolve it.
Let it sit for 5- 10 minutes and spray again.

Then run the engine for about 5 minutes (warm is your friend here), shut it off and spray the oil separator with some PB Blaster, wd-40, whatever floats your boat.
Wait a few minutes and have at it with the needle nose pliers. Just go easy and add more penetrating oil as needed.

Good Luck!
Wait a minute with the luck you have ( see roof rack ) this oil separator will probably just jump out of the valve cover.

So the oil separator was in upside down. It popped right out. I cleaned it and the whole assembly from the ram housing to the valve cover and re-assembled. That hose is in great shape. The driver’s side hose will be replaced soon, it is really soft, spongy even.
