Starting and charging diagram and photo attached. Big brown wire is from alternator, so amps come thru it and the 150 amp fuse link to do everything else. Red wire is cable to battery (632 in picture).
Volts to chassis at red wire should be above 12. Volts to chassis ground at brown wire should also be 12 or above.
On back of alternator, big wire is the output, should read 12 volts to chassis or motor. It goes to + battery terminal. Should also be clean and tight.
Smaller wire, which is brown/yellow, should be + volts to chassis ground when ignition is turned on, that voltage goes through the battery light and "excites" the alternator and makes it put out. If no + volts there, no output amps from alternator. Controlled by fuse 27.

I searched the electrical drawings for 601 and it came up as a connector to a secondary air injection pump (SAI). And obviously, if don't have 13 volts or so here (wires in fues box), battery is getting flat. So if you can jump off truck, meter readings across battery should be 13.8 volts to like 14.4. If battery is getting that kind of volts with truck running, switch on more stuff, like lights, fan, AC - volts will go down a little but not less than 13.2.
If good volts with alternator running, switch off truck. Measure battery volts. Just turn on head lights. If volts drop a whole bunch, like to 11 volts, with just that load, either loose ground or some other connection - or dead cell in battery (won't hold under load).
