Hey everyone, any ideas for fitting the camshaft position sensor with the o ring properly? I don’t want to tighten the bracket too much - manual says 6 lb-ft (I don’t have a torque wrench that goes below 10 lb-ft). I’ve put enough torque on it that it starts bending the bracket but the o ring doesn’t pop in. the sensor sits fine without the o ring, which is how I think it needs to fit with the o ring. I included images of each fit. It doesn’t seem like it should sit proud like that, but maybe it should? Had to ask those with more experience before I break something.

I’ve tried motor oil, silicone spray, hammer/punch… will try twisting back and forth tomorrow and maybe flipping the bracket 180-degrees.

Ia the correct seal supposed to be beveled? I’d heard that… As a last resort, I figured I’d just use some ultra black silicone, but I don’t know how precisely this sensor needs to be in there to let the engine run properly. I know it’s magnetic.

Seated without o ring (seems like that’s how it should fit. Does it even require an o ring?

O ring causes sensor to sit proud and o ring is partially exposed

 

It turned out mine had a rigid plastic beveled seal on it, so removed that and used the o ring. I didn’t realize the bevel on the sensor wasn’t part of the sensor’s mold until I looked at a picture of a new sensor.

 

That "plastic" is a deformed O-ring. Heat and oil ages the rubber and it gets hard and brittle.

 

You’re right - it was totally brittle. Someone said the correct seal was beveled and that had me confused. It’s just the old o ring. Glad I realized it wasn’t just part of the sensor’s molded housing and swapped it for the new o ring. It fit well. Newly sleeved harmonic balancer in and torqued to 200 lb-ft now too.
