Cat heat shield
In performing maintenance on the ds of the d2, specifically the front ds,i got to wondering about making a heat shield for the passenger cat. The purpose is to protect the cv.
Has anybody done this with success?

my center ball in the cardon isn't grease able. Only the two outer u joints. I've pulled the ds and will attempt to smear cv grease in/ on it. Any advice?
it's not the best insulator, embossed air gap aluminum, but better than nothing and only takes up a tiny bit of space. i used this:

I had the front ds on my bench today so i had "great" access to the joints. I tried using my grease needle but the ball and socket, which bty are in great shape, just kept smearing/ screeting the cv grease off. I probably applied a film on but only after working some warmed 175w gear lube in first. Once the oil was in it acted as a transfer medium as i worked it while suspended vertically in a vice, applying cv grease in a little at a time. I must say I don't like the exposure of the ball/socket to the heat and elements. Next replacement will be with a greasable center.
