Default Dash Switch Question

On both sides of the dash, left and right of the steering wheel, there are two switches that do not seem to do anything.

The passenger side switch is a true blank. If you pull the switch out, it is not wire to anything.

The driver side switch has nothing on the switch cover ( like the gas door, fog lamps and cruise ) and it does not push in and out like the other switches.

However, if I pull the switch, it's wired.

It has one black, two red, and one sort of yellowish wire.

What is this wired for?

there are plugs behind the dash switches, for several options. LR prewires for all options, whether installed or not. In many cases the option can be added, but before they become operational, the BCU has to be programmed for them and the correct relay has to be installed in the correct slot on the fuse box. Heated windscreen for example.

I figured that was the case. How would I go about figuring out what option would have been wired to that lower left switch?

I did a few searches based on the numbers on the switch and came up empty.

Is it based on what options were ordered from the factory?

It seems odd that there would be just a random wiring harness that could get wired anywhere, but it may come in handy at some point. I'd love to add an extra pair of fog lights, and it would be much easier if I could use that switch wiring.

Duh....just looked in the Rover glove box manual. It is the park assist option.

Check with Forum Member Abran, he is selling some switches with plugs that can be wired to what ever you want.

There is also a member in UK that sells connectors that plug into the inside fuse box for switched or un-switched power.

I ordered these and they got here quick and work perfectly. Price was about 20.00 shipped and you have several fused power options.

I believe those switches are turned on in the BCU as they are not latching switches. So it would not be possible to use them for accessories.
