what is a vacuum pump ??
The bracket under the hood that holds the cruise diaphragm, that has the cable attached that goes to the throttle body, also holds the vacuum pump.
The hoses everyone suggest to check go between those two parts.

P0440: Purge Valve Failure/Sticking. The previous owner decided it was easier to cut out the “check engine light” than to buy the $25 dollar Hyundai part and spend 10 minutes replacing it. So I spent $25 and 10 minutes to fix it followed by an hour to disassemble the gauge cluster, solder a five cent through hole LED back in place and reinstall.

Default Low end knock at idle

Persistent knock hot or cold below 2000 rpm, changed the rod bearings, oil pump and timing kit. Knock has gone away 100%.

Problem: Engine overheated after about 2 min.

Solution: Longblock, oil pump, water pump from Turner Engineering.

Oh yeah, bearings were well past it. Timing chain was ridiculously slack, but the oil pump looked great. Had the new one already, so I threw that in too with lots of Permatex Ultraslick red and petrolatum. But the bearings- yes, they were knocking for sure.

No babbit, looks like copper. Saw copper- like flakes in last oil change.

You could feel the lip where the white soft metal remained.

Every bearing looked like these did. Wish I had the time to do mains while I was in there.
