Default load noise when engage reverse

hello all
new comer here
i have a 97 disco 101,000 miles
when i put my disco in reverse it makes a load clunking noise from the front right of the truck. and it also does it when i am driving at 60 mph and let go of the gas pedal i here it go back and forth clucking in and out. what could that be could someone shed some light on this or has any other experience this before and what was the solution to fix it. it sounds really bad like something might brake in there.
thanks for your time

Default RE: load noise when engage reverse

I seem to remember reading a post on a board somewhere indicating it might be a transfer case or something like that. If I remember correctly, if it's coming from the front (like yours) you should have it checked out. If it's from the rear it's supposedly common and won't cause a problem, it's just annoying.

Sorry I can't be more detailed.
