May have found the reason for the spun bearing...
Informal head gasket comparison:
What looks to be a used OE headgasket (at 96K miles, who knows... could have been replaced already) -used.
The middle one is a no-name (supposed to be Victor Reinz, but I doubt it) -new.
The last one is the famed Cometic multilayer steel (MLS) HG.
I measured the thickness of the gaskets in two areas, first being the fire ring and second being the composite material -or on the MLS, the compressed edge. Furthermore, I also measured the used HG in an area not compressed by the head/block -just for an idea of how thick the composite material may have been prior to use.
I'm using a Fowler 0-1" 0.00005" digital micrometer, but rounding to 3 decimal places.
Measurements respectively:
Used HG:
.048" -fire ring between cylinders
.053" -composite crushed
.058" -composite non-crushed
No-name HG:
.074" -fire ring between cylinders
.061" -composite
Cometic .040" MLS HG:
.056" -raised portion of fire ring
.040" -flat area that would be comparable to area measured on composite hg.
Interesting to note that the openings for the cylinders are smaller on the MLS HG in comparison to both the composite headgaskets:
Composite: 96.08mm (3.7525")
vs
MLS 94.21mm (3.7085")
This may help seal the cylinders better by actually providing material for the liner to interact with.
That's all for now...

I am sure it does; that is a very good thing. Thanks for the data

drowssap--"I have rebuilt a ton of engines, and not yet seen a block top surface warped."
"then you sir have never proper machined an engine and the TONS of them that you HAVE are done are wrong."

Seriously? All the ones I have done since high school right up to today, all the ones I put well over 100,000 miles on, all wrong?
drowssap,---"All i can say is you must be talking out your BUTT, because you're mouth has to know better. (with all you're experience rebuilding TONS on engine.)
don't bother responding, i'm done you you supposed expertise."

My, my, temper, temper; you must have missed your anger management classes. From now on, when I post, why don't you move past my posts, and help your anger issues? Maybe it is that you JUST CAN'T STAND THE TRUTH, MY FRIEND. BASED ON YOUR POSTS, YOU ARE ONE INEXPERIENCED MECHANIC; MAYBE A WANNA BE, always getting upset when someone doesn't agree with you? Have a nice day anyway, my YOUNG MAN.

drowssap: ( I am) "just tired of your poor advice."

Ok, I can understand that, so if you, drowssap, and Dane too, find my posts not to your liking, not worthy of your attention, just ignore them, how could that be easier? Would't that be easier than your posting snide remarks for me to read; forcing me to respond in kind? After all, that is what I do to your posts, I treat them same as all others; if junk, I call them junk; your posts often show me, repeatedly, that you really don't have a clue what you are doing; are pretty ignorant when it comes to Rover repairs. I don't mean that in a negative way, it is just a fact, based on years of working on Rovers.
