New to us 2004 Land Rover Discovery SE with engine tick/tap
Yeah, I caught our condenser fan problem just before the hot weather here so that will definitely help keep things cool with the A/C going. It could be just me but another common issue I have noticed is a split front bumper just above the license plate. I have noticed that in the heat the crack almost disappears from thermal expansion and in the cold it more noticeable. Proabably cracked from years of weather changes is my guess. Almost ever used Disco I looked at had this split in the bumper.

re: I'm still reluctant to drive it any time I might get caught in traffic though,
I like the D1 version of electric fans that come on and stay on whenever AC is on. And I have a Mercedes W124 series, owners of those add a resistor at just the right place in the circuitry to "fool" the ECU into switching on the electric fans earlier.
I would suppose that someone could add a manual switch to force the fan relay on and not wait for higher temps to arrive. The logic being that if the old stat held you in the 200's, and fan came on at 212, that is not as much change. The new stat holding you in the 180's, but the fan does not come until 30 degrees more, that's a bigger shift in temp, and are we making metal things flex more because of an increased swing in temperature?

Ask the STEALERSHIP what GRADE oil did they use? Or take it for an oil change yourself. In the morning before starting your car, check your oil dip stick and make sure your oil lever is actually in FULL....on the dot. I have the same issue and your engine sounded like mine. It is quite embarrasing specially in traffic or drive through... | FIX: Make sure you have the right oil grade (I use the thicker one -) and added half a quart until my oil dip stick is actually showing FULL. The ticking annoying noise went away.
Hope this helps.
