GIVE THAT MAN A PRIZE!!!! You definitely found your problem, that poor bulb/BCU did know what the hell was going on.

As you have figured out the correct bulb is a S8 Single Contact Bayonet #7506 from any auto parts store.
To confirm it for you > Turn Signal Bulb - Front Or Back
Also check the sockets(bulb holders) & connectors for corrosion and use a little dielectric grease on the contacts.

this happens on every car, it’s when the bulb is about to go out, happened with my passenger blinker, changed the bulb and fixed the problem. Haven’t had it happen in over a year
