Default Rear Differential Lock

I ordered a rear diff with a TT locker already installed. I need to install it and send back my original diff. I was curious to see how long it took others to put it in and if anyone had any advice.

where did you buy it from ? I’m toying with the idea of putting a true track back there

I had read reviews of folks being happy with a front and rear TT only locks when you need it

what size tires do you have? I’ve read many reports that it starts to lose locking efficiency at 32 or 33 inch tires. It is much stronger than the stock carrier though, so still an improvement.

id start in the morning with all the right tools ready and assume you could have it done a bit after lunch, but maybe sooner. If nothing else, just block out the entire day and you should be set. It definitely shouldn’t take longer than a day.

you’ll want to just unbolt the entire hub and axle shafts in one and slide them all out. Don’t fool with the huge axle shaft nuts if you can help it. You’ll need silicon for the punk in. Good time to replace your rotoflex as well.

I did a write up about 5 years ago on how to replace the diffs. Should be of help to you.

You do not need to bleed the brakes after, not are there any required gaskets except some RTV. All in all not a bad job at all.

Alex’s write up is fantastic. I followed it with great success a couple of months ago. Pretty straightforward even for a noob like me.
