AK, I should have mentionedthe warranty co had the dealer pull apart the engine before the inspector got there so that it was ready for him to see

Was the camshaft pulled out of the engine when they inspected before? That's kind of where I think I'm getting confused. Why the camshaft wasn't inspected originally when the engine was taken apart considering that the camshaft was a possible cause of the problem. Sorry for being confused but I hate to see you have to pay all this money for something that should have been done the first time.

the warranty co made them pull apart the enginebefore the inspector came so it was ready for him to check, not sure if they exposed the camshaft

Sucks for them to be wrong but that is business. That is also why you bought the warranty, they should fix it, it really should not matter how many times they have to pull it apart to fix it. You are so close to the mileage they are probably trying to stall so you go past it and then are out of luck. Sorry about the rental car deal but I would say to leave it there and then they will eventually want to get it out of there.

Definitely talk to Mike if you haven't already. There's something not right, with the engine and the warranty company. I'm sure Mike has some good ideas how to deal with it.

Did anyone on this thread actually get rid of the knocking/tapping sound on their LR D2??? I am having the same problem. Changed the tappets/lifters, cleaned the push rod, changed the gaskets on the top of the engine (not the head gasket) and the noise is still there.

Can anyone tell me if they have found the solution please?

I had a ticking and it was the cup insert on the rocker arms, at the push rod connection. Replaced the Rocker arm assemblies and all good

Now, I have just built a new 4.6 motor and have a ticking. I thought it was the rocker arm, so I put together like 4 sets of arms and bought new shafts, took them to the machine shop and had all the rocker arms measured and made 1 set from the best ones I had.

Re assembled the motor, still ticking.

Now I am thinking the break in on the motor might have worn the cam wrong and am looking at replacing the Cam, Lifters, Push Rods, and Rocker arms assemblies. I hate it but don't want to have to go into the motor again.

Good luck, I know I need it.

My disco was ticking as well when I bought it 5 months ago. A 2000 D2 4.0L.

I changed the oil to Rotella T6 5w40 full synthetic and dumped in some Marvel Mystery oil.

It stopped ticking after about 500 miles. Sounds fine now. I must have had a sticky lifter.
