Transmission oil issue
Is a mechanical flush and fill better/worse option on a tranny with. 100,000 miles and unknown maintenence.

Regardless of maintenance history fresh fluid is never a bad idea. Make sure you change the filter, O-rings and pan gasket when service is performed. I'm not a fan of those power flush procedures since they usually disconnect cooler lines to attach their flushing equipment. This can result in broken connectors and/or leaks when lines are reattached.
I have a couple of friends with auto-transmission rebuilding shops, and they tell me that transmission flush machines are their best referrers. If not used perfectly properly, they can damage the transmission seals etc., and my friends are used to people coming in and telling them that they just had the transmission flushed and now it won't shift or other problems (neither of them will do or recommend "flushes"), and it is now rebuild time. Many flush shops will tell you that the flush just cleaned it out and it was about to fail anyway, ... I've heard this story many times also.
If you choose the flush method (I'd rather run old fluid until I find a shop that will do it the correct way and drop the pan / change the filter & fluid), do not do it at an oil-change shop or other general service shop, have it done by a real auto-transmission specialist (who will probably tell you that they don't "flush", they only do it the right way).

This is interesting - I thought I read to refill with the transmission in Park, then with your foot on the brake cycle thru the gears a few times, then back in Park and top-off.
Can you expand on the difference between refilling in N versus P?
